Creating a morning ritual to set your day up for success

I have a ritual!  I repeat, I have a ritual

Last week, during Super Soul Sunday, Oprah asked the viewers to tweet her their morning rituals. Everyone was like, “I meditate.”  “I drink Oprah Chai.”  “I sit peacefully by myself and reflect about my day.” etc.

The pressure was on…

The pressure was on.  I totally wanted to have a ritual to tweet to Oprah too, but the more I thought about it, I realized I have NO ritual in the am.

My morning looks like of like this:

Set two alarms that both have three snoozes for around ½ hour before I need to get up.

Alarm one goes off – snooze, snooze, snooze.

Alarm two goes off – snooze, snooze, roll on my side, grab phone and scroll through my Facebook and Twitter feeds to make sure I haven’t missed anything since 2am when I couldn’t sleep and was scrolling through them.

Then, I usually BOLT out of bed when I hear Tuesday, the goofy 6-toed cat, by the litter box, pawing on the floor.  There’s usually about a 60/40 chance that he’ll actually poop IN the box if I’m not there to give him the eye to let him know I’m standing there.  Pawing on the floor in an indication of where he plans to poop that day.

So then, after poop patrol, it’s time to head to my desk, jammis and all, where I jump right into answering emails, making phone calls, etc.

Time for something new…

Not exactly the calming Mecca of peace that most Super Soulers start their day with so I figured there was room for improvement.  I decided it would be a good idea to start my own ritual that fit in with my life.

Thoughtfully sipping tea or meditating?  mmmm, maybe but sitting peacefully isn’t my thing in the a.m.  When I’m up, I’m up.

So here’s what I decided to do and it’s actually working!!

Get to bed at a reasonable hour.

Wake up first alarm, 2nd snooze.  No FB / Twitter viewing.

Make sure Mr T’s box is clean, supervise pooping.

Go for a 20 – 60 minute walk. During the walk, think about what I need to do that day AND picture the outcome. – picturing the outcome is key and also a suggestion from Iyanla that happened to pop-up during one of my post snooze FB wall viewings.

Get home and immediately make the list mentioned above while drinking green juice (one with mostly veggies and not a lot of sugar.)

Hope in shower and dress like I’m at the office.

Return all unanswered emails and get to the list!!

Ok, I know this is all about business right now, but I’m busy planning a big summit in November and need to get my ducks on a row.  Once I get that, and 2015 under control, I’m going to add some personal goals to the list.

Ug, I know, I know!

I can tell you one thing I know for sure 😉

My Sunday ritual is watching Super Soul Sunday along with Oprah and my OWN Ambassador Friends.,  You can watch too either on the OWN network or if you don’t have cable, you can watch on the Super Soul Sunday Facebook page. (Just hit the watch now tab at the top of the page)

Huge H/T to a few of my good buddies who I look forward to watching the show with and tweeting every week.  You should definitely give them a follow for some great tweets! Lonnell, Prasanna, Ken, Jasmine, Janet and so many more!!

What is your morning ritual?  I’d love to hear about your am ritual and how it helps you kick-off your day!!
